Lisandro Martinez delivers playful Jamie Carragher response after Manchester United win

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez took a light-hearted swipe at former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher during a CBS Sports interview following the 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah on Thursday.

Carragher had questioned whether Martinez could succeed in the Premier League when the Argentina international joined Manchester United, arguing that his lack of height would count against him. The former Liverpool defender later apologised and admitted he had been wrong.

After the match, Martinez spoke to CBS Sports, where Carragher works as an expert alongside Micah Richards and Thierry Henry.

Richards began by asking Martinez what he thought of Carragher’s performance as a pundit.

“Did you see Carragher’s game? What did you think of him?” Richards asked.

“As a player? A good person,” Martinez replied, prompting laughter in the studio.

Richards then asked the defender to name his favourite expert on the programme.

“We know you watch our show. Who is your favourite expert?” he said.

“You know the answer. Thierry Henry,” Martinez responded.

Carragher then joined the exchange, pointing out that defenders often pay particular attention to other defenders.

“What about the defenders? Defenders always watch defenders,” he said.

Martinez replied: “I watch good players,” drawing another strong reaction from the studio.

The Manchester United centre-back also scored the fourth goal in the win over Sabah.
