Lazio set historic five-match points record after Venezia victory

Lazio have made the most successful start in their history, reaching 13 points from their opening five matches after beating Venezia.

Gennaro Gattuso’s side have won four of those games and drawn the other, against Milan. No Lazio team had previously collected as many points at this stage of a season, including the two campaigns in which the club won the Italian championship.

Lazio were champions in 1974 and 2000, but neither title-winning side matched the current team’s tally after five matches.

Their next fixture will be against Monza, although the game is not due to take place for another three weeks because of the extended break for international football.
