Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi is set to undergo a late fitness assessment ahead of the team's anticipated away fixture against Aston Villa on Saturday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The news comes after Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo disclosed that Awoniyi sustained an injury following their recent victory over West Ham United, where he netted the opening goal before being substituted.

Awoniyi, who has been sidelined for approximately three months due to a groin issue, is in the process of regaining match fitness, according to Santo's remarks earlier this week. "Taiwo Awoniyi is 'fine' as he continues to build fitness following his recent return," Santo stated, emphasizing the need to manage the situation carefully given the team's circumstances.

The 26-year-old Nigerian forward has been instrumental for Nottingham Forest this season, scoring six goals in 14 league appearances.

However, his availability for the upcoming clash remains uncertain pending the outcome of the fitness evaluation.

Meanwhile, Forest will also be without the services of Awoniyi's international teammate Ola Aina, who has been ruled out of the game due to injury.
