LAFC win thriller over Atlanta
There was little defence on offer at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday as LAFC defeated Atlanta United 4-3.
Adama Diomande, Diego Rossi, inevitably Carlos Vela and Eduard Atuesta were all on target for the hosts as LAFC increased their lead in the Western Conference to 12 points over the LA Galaxy.
LAFC has won 15 of their 22 games, scored more goals than any other team and also fielded the best defence in the MLS.
Given that information the dominant +36 goal difference is not a surprise as LAFC has run away with the Western Conference.
However the other team with a goal difference in double digits is something of a surprise.
It's not the Galaxy or the Philadelphia Union who lead the Eastern Conference by three points over Atlanta United.
In fact third place New York City FC are the only other side in MLS with a double digit goal difference.
New York City was also in action on Friday evening as they defeated Sporting Kansas City 3-1.
Anton Tinnerhol, Héber and Alexander Ring all struck for the hosts at Yankee Stadium as New York City moved even on points with DC United, despite playing three games less.
The gap to the Philadelphia Union is only four points and New York City will fancy their chances of claiming the top spot in the Eastern Conference once they have played their games in hand.
Saturday the Union return to the field when they are in Montreal to face the Impact.
DC United is also on the road as they face the Fire in Chicago and fifth placed New York Red Bulls welcome in the Columbus Crew.
DC United are 4/1 to win that clash, with the home side 4/7 and the draw priced at 7/2.
