Arsenal have confirmed that defender Laurent Koscielny is to leave the club with an agreement with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux in place.

The 33-year-old's future at the Emirates Stadium has been the subject of speculation throughout the summer with the centre-half keen on a move away.

He had a year remaining on his contract with Unai Emery's side but wanted to leave and an agreement is now in place for him to return to France.

Arsenal said in a statement: "We decided to sanction his move to Bordeaux once we agreed acceptable transfer terms.

"We thank Laurent for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future."

Koscielny leaves having made 353 appearances for the Gunners and won the FA Cup three times with the club, in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

With his departure confirmed Arsenal now have the task of replacing him before the transfer window shuts on Thursday.

They are thought to be interested in RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano as well as Daniele Rugani from Juventus.

Emery is still hopeful of forcing a deal through to buy Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney before the deadline while Carl Jenkinson is thought likely to leave the Emirates before Thursday, Nottingham Forest being his probable destination.

The Gunners are in action this weekend at the start of the new Premier League season, travelling to St James' Park to take on Newcastle in Steve Bruce's first game as United manager.

Arsenal are 8/11 to win with Newcastle 7/2 and the draw 11/4.

The Gunners are 6/4 to finish in the top four of the league this coming season while Manchester United are 11/10.

Other deals to have gone through see Harry Arter leave Bournemouth for a season-long loan deal with Championship side Fulham while Eddie Howe's side are hopeful of concluding a loan deal of their own, for Liverpool's Harry Wilson.

West Ham meanwhile have signed defender Goncalo Cardoso from Boavista on a five-year deal.
