Karl Toko-Ekambi’s Russian move stalls over contract gap

Karl Toko-Ekambi remains without a club after negotiations with FC Rodina Moscow broke down over salary demands.

The 34-year-old Cameroon international has been searching for a new club since leaving Al Arabi SC. After potential moves back to Ligue 1 and a switch to Morocco failed to materialise, he has turned his attention to opportunities outside those markets.

FC Rodina Moscow made a formal approach for the former Lyon forward, according to Sport24. The Moscow-based club reportedly offered him an annual salary of about 800,000 euros.

However, the financial terms quickly became the central issue in the negotiations. Toko-Ekambi is understood to have been seeking close to 2 million euros per season, a figure significantly above Rodina’s proposal.

The Russian club subsequently ended discussions after deciding that the gap between the two positions could not be bridged. The talks have now been definitively closed, leaving Toko-Ekambi available on the transfer market.

The forward has previously been linked with a return to Ligue 1 and a move to Morocco, but neither option has led to an agreement. His search for the next stage of his career therefore continues following the collapse of the discussions with FC Rodina Moscow.
