Juventus beat Atalanta to climb into Serie A’s top six

Juventus strengthened their position in Serie A’s top six with a 2-0 victory over Atalanta, extending Luciano Spalletti’s side’s strong home run to just one defeat in their last 11 competitive matches at the Allianz Stadium (W7, D3).

The result moved Juventus up to sixth in the league, leaving them three points behind leaders AS Roma.

A cautious opening was perhaps expected, with 12 of the previous 19 league meetings between the teams ending in draws. Atalanta arrived in Turin with a strong recent away record against Juventus in Serie A, having won two and drawn six of their last eight such encounters.

The visitors gradually increased the pressure as the first half developed. Lazar Samardzic and Jonathan Rowe both went close in quick succession, but neither could find the target with efforts from close range.

Juventus then took the lead in the 28th minute. Mehmet Zeki Celik created the opening with an intelligent cutback, allowing Francisco Conceicao to sweep the ball clinically into the bottom corner.

It was the Portuguese winger’s first goal of the season, but Atalanta remained dangerous after falling behind. Rowe missed the target with a header from 12 yards as La Dea continued to threaten in the final third.

Juventus nevertheless held their advantage at half-time.

Both teams began the second half with purpose. Nicolas Gonzalez and Randal Kolo Muani came close for the hosts, while Atalanta forced a good save from Guglielmo Vicario when Rowe struck a powerful effort towards goal.

With the contest entering its final 30 minutes, Atalanta came close to an equaliser when Thomas Kristensen’s header from close range was blocked in the six-yard box.

The visitors were also trying to avoid a third successive league defeat under the same manager, which would have been their first such run since April 2025.

Atalanta responded by introducing Giacomo Raspadori, Gianluca Scamacca and Gianluca Gaetano from the bench, but the substitutions did not produce the desired change.

Juventus instead added a second goal in the 77th minute. Gleison Bremer rose highest inside the penalty area to meet Edon Zhegrova’s inswinging corner and head home.

That goal effectively settled the match. Kolo Muani and substitute Teun Koopmeiners both had opportunities to extend Juventus’ lead in the closing stages, but the hosts were able to see out a comfortable victory.

Spalletti’s team completed the game without further difficulty, earning a morale-boosting result and continuing their impressive form at the Allianz Stadium.
