Joyce happy with preparations
Melbourne City shouldn't have any problems backing up their win at Western Sydney, says coach Warren Joyce.
The fourth-placed side are in action for the second time in six days when they host Newcastle Jets on Sunday. There's a spring in their step, though, after they picked up an impressive 2-0 win against Wanderers despite being reduced to 10 men.
The hot temperatures could be a factor, as it's been over 40 degrees this week in Melbourne, but Joyce says the club have been doing what they can to counter that issue.
The coach, who has seen City win three of their last five matches, said: "The recovery part is important, we do the right things. It's important that we've still got the same energy levels to drive the games like we've been doing.
"With the heat, we've had to adjust training a little bit which is another component that you've got to deal with but we've got to treat it like nothing's the problem. It's a matter of keeping players' minds right and trying to go into games as fresh as we possibly can."
Joyce's side will be looking to close the gap on the sides above them when they host back-to-back games against the Jets and Brisbane, who are both outside the Finals Series places.
Speaking of the victory over Western Sydney, the coach said: "I thought the spirit was tremendous. Obviously you go down to 10 men, nobody likes to do that, but we were in a good position in the game. [It was] tremendous spirit and work ethic and desire to see the game out."
Melbourne City are 11/10 to win their next game against Newcastle, who are 13/5 with the draw 12/5. City are 13/2 to win 1-0.
