Jordan to host Japan in Women’s Asian Cup preview
Kuala Lumpur: Jordan’s already-extensive build-up to the next April’s home AFC Women’s Asian Cup will continue with a friendly against holders Japan.
Michael Dickey’s Jordanian squad will face the World No 8 Nadeshiko in Amman on November 24, in the first meeting between two sides since Japan won handsomely at the 2014 Asian Games.
Jordan – who will become the first West Asian nation to host Asia’s flagship women’s competition next year – have been one of the continent’s busiest national teams in 2017, taking in camps in the US, Cyprus, Croatia, Bosnia and earning a first-ever win on European soil against Latvia.
Last month they hosted French club side Olympique de Marseille in Aqaba, as the hosts leave no stone unturned in pursuit of a first ever appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Japan’s results have been mixed in the past 12 months, but they remain one of the world’s strongest women’s national teams, and will arrive in Amman fresh from a 2-0 win over Switzerland in their most recent outing.
Asako Takakura and her side will get an early look at the location of next April’s championship, as well as potential opponents, with the final daw to be held just over two weeks later on December 9.
