John Brooks has yet to make a Bundesliga appearance for Wolfsburg.

United States international John Brooks is set to return to Wolfsburg team training after sustaining a tendon injury less than 45 minutes into his debut for the club in August.

Brooks, 24, said last week he hoped to return to team training "very soon," having resumed individual training earlier this month after injuring himself in the DFB Pokal win over Eintracht Norderstedt.

And while at the time Wolfsburg sporting director Olaf Rebbe said it was difficult to give an "exact prognosis" on when the defender, who arrived from Hertha Berlin in the summer, would return to the matchday squad, he is now closing in on his first Bundesliga appearance for the club.

"Jeffrey Bruma and John Anthony Brooks are set to return to full team training," Rebbe told reporters.

Germany international Mario Gomez is also set to return to Wolfsburg team training after sustaining an ankle injury in a draw with Hannover in September.

However, Wolfsburg head coach Martin Schmidt, who has drawn all four of his first four games in charge, has warned Gomez that he will not return to the starting XI without a "fight."

In Gomez's absence, Liverpool loanee Divock Origi has played up front and has since scored twice and impressed for the 2015 DFB Pokal winners.

"Divock right now is that step ahead," Schmidt told Bild. "If Mario watched the [Bayer] Leverkusen match at the weekend, he also saw that the one who's playing now also scores. This shall be an open fight, and Mario must fight for his position."
