Ghanaian midfielder John Arwuah will play in the South Africa second tier next season after his club AmaZulu were relegated from the Premiership following their 2-1 loss to John Paintsil Maritzburg United in their match at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Three Ghanaian players were in action in the match with Paintsil and Anas Mohammed playing for the visiting side while Arwuah played for AmaZulu.

After fleeting moments of hope that AmaZulu could stay in the PSL, their 2-1 defeat against Maritzburg United on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium ended those hopes and saw the club relegated to the National First Division.

This resulted in the KwaZulu-Natal team suffering a final-day defeat and moving down to the National First Division.

Coach Steve Barker said the team have themselves to blame by not having a good start in this match and lacking a bit of sharpness.

Needing to match the score of fellow relegation-threatened side Moroka Swallows, who won on the final day of the season, AmaZulu’s loss meant they fell to bottom of the table upon the completion of the season and were automatically relegated to the National First Division.

Maritzburg ended any hopes AmaZulu had of staying in the Premiership in the 88th minute. Mohau Mokate was on hand to grab the winner for his side.
