Jadon Sancho turns down Getafe move as Saudi Pro League switch emerges
Jadon Sancho has reportedly rejected a move to Getafe and could now be considering a transfer to the Saudi Pro League as he searches for the next step in his career.
The former Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund winger is a free agent after leaving Manchester United during the summer, meaning he can join a club outside the transfer window.
Sancho’s proposed move to Getafe, who were interested in helping the England international rebuild his career, appears to have broken down. His wages are understood to be among the issues preventing the transfer from going ahead.
A move to the Saudi League could provide Sancho with the financial terms he is seeking, while also offering him an opportunity to revive his career at the age of 26, as he enters what should be his prime years.
Sancho joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund for approximately £73M in 2021. The transfer was followed by a difficult period for the player at Old Trafford, where he later fell out with then-manager Erik ten Hag.
He returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan in 2024 before spending the 2024–25 season at Chelsea. The winger then joined Aston Villa on loan for 2025–26.
Sancho made 39 appearances for Aston Villa last season and scored once. However, he did not secure a permanent transfer, with manager Unai Emery deciding that the player would return to Manchester United once his loan spell ended.
During the summer, after departing Manchester United as a free agent, Sancho was pictured training with 10th-tier Flixton FC, a club based in Greater Manchester.
He used Flixton FC’s facilities for a private training session in August 2026. The club made clear that Sancho was not on trial and that no transfer discussions were taking place.
His future has remained unresolved since then, with the reported collapse of the Getafe move leaving the Saudi Pro League as a possible destination. Sancho is able to complete a move despite the transfer window being closed because he is currently without a club.
The proposed switch would give him the chance to continue his career away from European football while securing the high wages available in Saudi Arabia.
