Iwobi visits local community, hands out award
Alex Iwobi took some time out of his summer break to visit a local community and award one of its members for his outstanding contribution.
The Arsenal star paired up with Gunners’ ‘Kicks’ project which ‘uses football as a way to positively engage young people in the local area’.
Dillon White, a member of ‘Kicks’, has gone from taking part in sessions after school to earning his coaching badges and becoming an Arsenal Kicks coach himself.
Iwobi was on hand to award Dillon for his extraordinary achievements.
The Nigerian winger presented the Kicks coach with a comic book strip, telling the story of his journey through the programme.
“To actually see it for myself with my own eyes is amazing.” said Iwobi. “It gives them [participants] the opportunity to get off the streets, to learn about life, not just on the pitch but also off it.
“It gives them the possibilities to better their career and better their future.”
Dillon said: “When I first got involved, it just felt good to be doing something football related with my team, Arsenal. But Kicks is about more than football.
“It’s a way of giving encouragement and support to people who might need it. As an Arsenal in the Community coach now, I’m proud to be playing my part in that for the next generation.”
