Wilfred Ndidi has been officially appointed as the new captain of Nigeria's Super Eagles, succeeding William Troost-Ekong who recently retired from international football, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Besiktas midfielder's appointment marks a new era of leadership for the team as they prepare for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Ndidi, who has 71 caps for Nigeria since his debut in 2015, expressed his gratitude for the responsibility and emphasized the importance of teamwork and unity.

"It's a huge responsibility, with the help of the players everything will be smooth," he said. "I have had conversation with a couple of the players... we are all in this together".

The Super Eagles will begin their AFCON campaign on December 23 against Tanzania in Fez, with Ndidi looking to lead the team to a strong showing.
