The Women’s U20 World Cup reaches the quarter-final stage in Poland on Saturday, 19 September, with South Korea facing Italy before Brazil meet Spain.

South Korea booked their place in the last eight by beating Argentina 1-0. Italy, meanwhile, needed a penalty shoot-out to overcome China after their match finished 1-1, eventually winning 5-4.

The tie represents a significant milestone for Italy, who are back at the tournament after a 14-year absence. Their victory over China has secured the country’s first quarter-final appearance in the history of the Women’s U20 World Cup.

Brazil and Spain will contest the second quarter-final.

Spain have been among the standout sides in the competition so far, winning all three of their group matches and scoring 16 goals. They continued that form in the last 16 by defeating Portugal 2-0.

Brazil also went unbeaten in the group stage before overcoming the United States in a shoot-out. Their match ended 1-1, with Brazil progressing 5-4 on penalties.

Spain are aiming to reach the semi-finals for a third time. Brazil, meanwhile, will look to extend their run in the tournament as they build towards the senior Women’s World Cup, which they will host in 2027.
