Iraola says Liverpool penalty ‘probably wasn’t there’
Liverpool beat Brentford 2-1 in the seventh round of the Premier League, with Andoni Iraola questioning the decision-making around a penalty incident in the match.
The referee initially awarded Liverpool a penalty in the 41st minute. However, after reviewing the incident on the video assistant referee monitor, the decision was overturned because it was judged that Ouattara had played the ball.
“Most likely, there was no penalty,” Iraola said in an interview with Sky Sports.
Brentford were reduced to 10 men a few minutes later when Yegor Yermolyuk was shown a red card for a foul.
The visitors were down to nine players in the 92nd minute after Janelt received a second yellow card.
The result moved Liverpool into fifth place in the Premier League with 12 points.
