Zlatan Ibrahimovic has left his position overseeing sporting matters at AC Milan, according to Sky Sport.

It is not known whether the former footballer made the decision himself or whether it was taken by Milan owner Gerry Cardinale. However, Sky Sport reports that head coach Ruben Amorim played no part in the change.

Ibrahimovic will remain a senior adviser to RedBird Capital Partners, the company that owns Milan.

The former Sweden international had been involved in the club’s sporting structure, but his departure from the leadership role marks a change in his responsibilities at San Siro. His continuing position with RedBird means he will remain connected to the ownership group despite stepping away from the Milan role.

Milan are fifth in the Serie A table after six matches, with 12 points.
