Xavier Junior Mandza Tsiendi is beginning to attract attention in French football after making an early impression in Ligue 1 with OGC Nice.

The 17-year-old centre-back has quickly established himself as a player to watch, with his performances reported to have attracted interest from major European clubs, including Juventus. Here are three key points about the young defender’s progress.

A promising start in Ligue 1

Mandza Tsiendi made his first Ligue 1 start for OGC Nice on 22 August 2026, featuring in central defence against FC Lorient.

He played 88 minutes and received a rating of 7/10 according to Transfermarkt data. His appearance was particularly notable because centre-back was not a position he had occupied before the beginning of the summer.

His early performances have highlighted his defensive work and willingness to compete in challenges. He has recovered 23 balls, won 14 duels and completed seven successful tackles, placing him among Nice’s strongest performers in those categories.

Across three matches, he has also made 33 passes that broke an opposition line. Those displays are understood to have drawn interest from Juventus, while his market value has been reported at 25 million euros.

Following in his father’s footsteps

Football is also an important part of Mandza Tsiendi’s family background.

The Nice defender is the son of Thierry Xavier Mandza, a former Gabon international. He has therefore grown up with close experience of the demands of elite football and the standards expected at professional level.

That family connection provides an obvious source of inspiration as he attempts to establish his own identity in the game. His performances for Nice have already helped him step out of his father’s shadow and generated interest in his potential.
