Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare has indicated he would welcome a permanent move to Ajax after deciding their UEFA Conference League match against Atalanta.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee came off the bench in the 66th minute at the Johan Cruijff ArenA and made a decisive impact late in the game. He opened the scoring in the 87th minute before setting up Abdellah Ouazane to complete the victory in the 93rd minute.

The result gave Ajax their first points of the Conference League campaign, following their defeat by Hajduk Split on the opening matchday.

Arokodare’s contribution turned a goalless contest into a dramatic win, with the Nigerian forward proving the difference after being introduced during the second half.

Speaking to LiveScore after the match, Arokodare said he was enjoying his time in Amsterdam but acknowledged that any permanent transfer would depend on discussions between Ajax and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Asked about the possibility of remaining at the Dutch club beyond his loan spell, he replied: “That’s between Ajax and Wolves; I can’t say anything about it. Tell that to Ajax,” before joking: “And maybe increase my salary.”

Although the 25-year-old could not say whether a deal was being negotiated, he was clear about his feelings towards Ajax and the welcome he has received since arriving.

“Of course I’m open to it. I love it here. I’ve felt love here from day one.”
