Super Falcons set up Morocco tie after 7-0 aggregate win over Comoros
Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face Morocco in the third round of the 2028 Olympic Games women’s football qualifiers after completing a 7-0 aggregate victory over Comoros.
The Super Falcons followed up their 2-0 first-leg win with a 5-0 success in Ikenne on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Uchenna Kanu and Toni Payne both scored twice, while Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty as Nigeria advanced comfortably.
The victory was tempered by an injury to captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who went off in the first half after a heavy collision. Folashade Ijamilusi replaced her.
Nigeria began positively, with Gift Monday unable to beat the Comoros goalkeeper after breaking through in the ninth minute. The hosts eventually took the lead in the 41st minute when Kanu intercepted a misplaced pass and squared for Payne to score from close range.
Kanu had scored Nigeria’s second goal in the first leg and continued her influence after the interval. Following the introduction of Blessing Okpe for Monday, Ijamilusi crossed for Kanu to head in the second goal in the 58th minute.
Kanu had another effort ruled out for offside three minutes later, but Nigeria soon added to their advantage. Okpe ran past two defenders before cutting the ball back for Payne, who completed her brace in the 63rd minute.
Ijamilusi supplied another assist in the 66th minute, sending in a cross which Kanu headed home to complete her own two-goal performance and put Nigeria 4-0 ahead on the night.
Nigeria were awarded a penalty in the 71st minute after Okpe was brought down inside the box. Ucheibe converted from the spot to complete the scoring and seal the 7-0 aggregate result.
Suliat Abideen and Shakirat Moshood replaced Kanu and Jennifer Echegini in the 81st minute, while Fatimah Soliat came on for Payne three minutes from time as the technical crew managed the players’ workload.
Morocco await in the third round
Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses progressed after Congo withdrew from the competition. Nigeria’s two-legged tie with Morocco is scheduled for February 23 to March 6, 2027, according to the Confederation of African Football qualifying schedule.
The African qualifying competition involves 35 national teams across five two-legged knockout rounds. The remaining rounds are scheduled for February 23–March 6, 2027, October 4–12, 2027, and November 23–December 4, 2027, following the first two rounds held from June 1–9 and October 5–13, 2026.
Sixteen teams will contest the third round, with eight advancing to the fourth. Those eight teams will compete for four places in the final round, where the two winners will claim Africa’s places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The women’s football tournament is scheduled to run from July 11–29, 2028. Nigeria must navigate three more rounds to secure one of the continent’s two qualification places, with Ajibade’s condition now an immediate concern.
