Super Eagles Fight Back From Two Goals Down to Draw 3-3 With Russia
The Super Eagles produced a spirited second-half fightback to earn a 3-3 draw against Russia in Tuesday’s international friendly, with Akor Adams striking deep into stoppage time to complete Nigeria’s comeback, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Nigeria made a bright start to the encounter and took the lead in the 10th minute through Kelechi Iheanacho, who finished well to put the visitors ahead.
Russia responded after falling behind and restored parity in the 30th minute when Sadulaev found the net, ensuring both teams went into the interval level at 1-1.
The hosts came out strongly after the restart and quickly turned the game in their favour. Kislyak put Russia ahead before Aleksey Miranchuk added another goal in the 54th minute to give the home side a 3-1 advantage.
Facing a two-goal deficit, Nigeria gradually found a way back into the contest as the game entered its final stages.
Peter Edokpolor reduced the deficit in the 78th minute, giving the Super Eagles renewed belief and setting up a tense finish in the closing minutes.
Nigeria continued to push for an equaliser and were rewarded in the fourth minute of added time when Adams found the back of the net to make it 3-3 and rescue a point for Eric Chelle’s side.
The draw means Nigeria and Russia have now shared the spoils in their last two meetings. Their previous encounter ended 1-1, with Tuesday’s six-goal thriller producing another closely fought contest between the two nations.
For the Super Eagles, the comeback provided valuable experience against European opposition and highlighted the team’s resilience after falling two goals behind.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Tanzania set to provide the opposition in Matchdays 3 and 4 in November.
