Sporting CP beaten at home as LASK complete 3-2 UEFA Champions League turnaround
LASK came from behind to beat Sporting CP 3-2 in Portugal on Wednesday, securing a surprise victory in the third matchday of the UEFA Champions League.
The hosts took the lead after only five minutes when Luis Suarez found the net. LASK responded 10 minutes later, with Christoph Lang restoring parity in the 15th minute.
Neither side could find another goal before half-time, sending the teams into the interval level at 1-1.
LASK moved in front for the first time in the 63rd minute when Sasa Kalajdzic scored. The Austrian side then extended its advantage five minutes later as Krystof Danek made it 3-1.
Sporting CP continued to push for a way back into the match and were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute. Luis Suarez converted the spot-kick to complete his double and reduce the deficit to one goal.
The late response, however, was not enough to prevent Sporting CP from suffering defeat at home, while LASK held on to claim all three points.
