Simeone Provides Lookman Fitness Update Ahead of Arsenal Clash
Diego Simeone has cast doubt over the availability of Ademola Lookman ahead of Atletico Madrid’s UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal FC, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Red and Whites are set to host Mikel Arteta’s side at the Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday night, but Lookman remains a major fitness concern heading into the crucial encounter.
The Nigerian forward has missed Atletico’s last two league matches after sustaining an adductor injury during the Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad.
Providing an update, Simeone admitted the winger has yet to fully recover and remains a doubt for the high-stakes clash.
“We’ll see tomorrow if Ademola Lookman can recover. He still had some discomfort today,” the Argentine coach said during his pre-match press conference.
Despite the injury setback, Lookman has been an important figure for Atletico in Europe this season, contributing two goals and two assists in six Champions League appearances.
His potential absence would be a significant blow as Atletico aim to gain an advantage in the first leg of the semi-final tie.
