Real Madrid make move for Haaland after Manchester City charges verdict

Real Madrid have contacted Erling Haaland’s representatives after Manchester City were found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules, according to Football Insider.

The LaLiga club are prepared to renew their long-standing interest in the striker, with Arsenal also understood to be keen. However, it remains uncertain whether Haaland would be willing to leave Manchester City for another English club.

An independent panel ruled that Manchester City had breached 114 of the 115 financial charges brought against them by the Premier League. The club intend to challenge the findings through a legal appeal.

The verdict has cast fresh uncertainty over Haaland’s future at the Etihad Stadium, despite the Norway international having a contract with Manchester City until 2034.

It would take an offer of more than £150M to persuade Manchester City to sell the 26-year-old, with Real Madrid expected to meet the club’s valuation if they decide to pursue a formal move.

Haaland’s contract does not contain a relegation clause. That means Manchester City would still be in a position to demand their full valuation, even if the club’s legal case ultimately affects their Premier League status.
