Rangers International defender Ifeanyi Onyebuchi undergoes successful surgery

Rangers International defender Ifeanyi Onyebuchi has undergone surgery after aggravating an injury during a pre-season fixture in August.

The Nigerian champions confirmed the centre-back’s successful procedure in a brief statement on their X account.

“Ifeanyi Onyebuchi has successfully undergone his scheduled procedure,” the club said.

“We wish him a smooth and speedy recovery as he begins the rehabilitation process. The entire Rangers family stands firmly behind him and looks forward to seeing him back on the pitch.”

Onyebuchi originally suffered the injury during Rangers’ Nigeria Premier Football League match against Bendel Insurance. The setback ruled him out of the 2024 African Nations Championship.

The defender then underwent treatment and rehabilitation, eventually recovering sufficiently to return to action.

However, the injury was aggravated during Rangers’ pre-season preparations in August, making a further operation necessary.

The Flying Antelopes will now hope Onyebuchi completes another rehabilitation programme and makes a full and speedy recovery.

Onyebuchi’s absence is a blow to Rangers as they continue their campaign in the Nigeria Premier Football League. The club said its players, staff and supporters remained behind him as he begins the latest stage of his recovery.
