NNL delays 2026-27 season opener by 24 hours
The Nigeria National League (NNL) has postponed the opening match of the 2026/2027 season by 24 hours, with Heartland FC’s Conference A meeting with Crown FC Ogbomoso now scheduled for Sunday, 1 November 2026.
The fixture was originally due to take place on Saturday, 31 October, but will instead be played at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
The change affects only the opening match. All other fixtures in Conferences A, B, C and D remain scheduled for the weekend of 7–8 November 2026 at venues across the country.
NNL Chief Operating Officer Danlami Alanana said the rescheduling was required because “important” state events are due to take place at Dan Anyiam Stadium on Saturday, 31 October.
“The NNL wants the host state to be adequately represented at the opening fixture to ensure a strong turnout and create the atmosphere befitting of the occasion,” Alanana said in a statement.
He apologised to Heartland FC and Crown FC, as well as their supporters, for the alteration and asked them to understand the circumstances behind the decision.
Alanana added that moving the match was “in the best interest of a successful start to the new season”.
The match between Heartland FC and Crown FC Ogbomoso will now officially begin the 2026/2027 NNL campaign.
