NFF Normalisation Committee May Remain in Place for One Year
The proposed Normalisation Committee for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) could operate for between six months and one year as FIFA and Nigerian authorities continue discussions over its formation and responsibilities, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The development follows a recent meeting between the National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Shehu Dikko, and FIFA, where the proposed framework for the NFF Normalisation Committee was among the key issues discussed.
According to a senior NSC source who took part in the meeting and spoke to UK-based Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, discussions are still ongoing over the potential members and the committee’s mandate.
“It’s all being discussed, and a long list of potential members is in place… But you know everyone must go through same FIFA integrity and eligibility check like FIFA Exco Members,” the source said.
The source further disclosed that FIFA and the Nigerian authorities have yet to reach an agreement on the precise responsibilities of the proposed committee.
“Regarding the remit of the NC? This is yet to be agreed on with FIFA, according to my source. Discussions are continuing,” the report stated.
Although a six-month to one-year tenure is currently being considered, the final duration, composition and mandate of the Normalisation Committee remain subject to further discussions between FIFA and the Nigerian authorities.
Further consultations are expected before the committee is formally constituted and its responsibilities clearly defined.
