Newcastle United came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth on Saturday, with Jacob Ramsey scoring late to rescue a point for the hosts in their third-round English league fixture.

Bournemouth made the stronger start and took the lead after only nine minutes. Marcus Tavernier finished to put the visitors in front and give Newcastle United an early problem to solve.

The home side then fell further behind in the 35th minute. Bournemouth’s second goal came when Malik Thiaw put the ball into his own net, leaving the visitors with a two-goal advantage before half-time.

Newcastle United responded almost immediately and reduced the deficit before the interval. Harvey Barnes found the net after receiving a pass from Lewis Hall, reviving the hosts’ hopes of avoiding defeat.

The second half was dominated by Newcastle United’s attempts to level the score. Bournemouth held on for most of the remaining period, but the pressure eventually told in the closing stages.

Ramsey completed the comeback with a late goal, ensuring the match ended 2-2 and that neither side left with all three points. The draw represented a significant recovery for Newcastle United after they had trailed 2-0, while Bournemouth were unable to protect the advantage they had established in the opening half.

Bournemouth have two points, while Newcastle United have five points after three rounds.
