Mikel Merino could leave Arsenal next year, with Atletico de Madrid and Athletic Club considering moves for the 30-year-old midfielder, according to ArsenalRadar.

The Spain international, who can also operate in an attacking role, is being linked with a return to La Liga after the end of the season.

Atletico de Madrid may try to sign Merino as early as January. The club are considering a loan deal that would include an option to buy the World Cup winner.

Athletic Club are instead looking at a permanent transfer next summer. The Basque club could make an offer of about 30m euros, provided they qualify for European competition.

Merino remains under contract at Arsenal until the middle of 2028, but a lack of regular first-team football could lead to his departure next year.

The midfielder joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad and has been used in both midfield and more advanced positions. His possible availability has prompted interest from two La Liga clubs, although no transfer has been confirmed.
