Kylian Mbappe says Real Madrid must maintain their current approach despite suffering their first defeat of the season against Real Betis.

The Spanish club were beaten 1-0 by Betis in their recent La Liga fixture, with the result ending Real Madrid’s unbeaten start to the campaign. Mbappe had the opportunity to rescue a point in stoppage time, but the France forward missed a penalty.

“Continue to play like this – everything will be fine,” Mbappe said after the match, as Real Madrid looked to put the setback into perspective.

The defeat was particularly painful because Real Madrid came close to avoiding it in the closing stages. Mbappe was given the chance to equalise from the penalty spot during added time, but he was unable to convert.

Betis held on for a narrow victory, leaving Real Madrid to reflect on their first loss of the current season. Despite the result, Mbappe’s comments indicated that he believes the team’s performances and overall direction remain positive.

Real Madrid will have little time to dwell on the disappointment, with their next match coming in the Champions League. They will face Inter Milan at home on Tuesday in a meeting between two of European football’s established clubs.

The Champions League fixture will begin at 22:00 Moscow time.

Mbappe’s response follows a match in which the decisive moment came late, when his missed spot-kick left Real Madrid without a share of the points. The France international had been presented with an opportunity to change the outcome, but Betis retained their lead until the final whistle.

For Real Madrid, the result marks a setback at the start of the season rather than a change to their stated approach. They will now turn their attention from La Liga to European competition, with Inter Milan providing the opposition at their home ground.

The match against Betis was settled by a single goal, while Real Madrid’s missed penalty denied them the chance to level the score. That combination secured Betis victory and handed Real Madrid their first defeat of the campaign.

Mbappe’s message, however, was one of confidence. He argued that continuing to play in the same manner would bring positive results, even after the team’s failure to take anything from the latest La Liga match.

The upcoming contest against Inter Milan gives Real Madrid an immediate opportunity to respond. It will be their next competitive fixture, with the Champions League match scheduled for Tuesday evening and a 22:00 Moscow time kick-off.
