Maresca says Cherki belongs among Europe’s elite despite positional warning

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has described attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki as “one of the best players in Europe”.

The 23-year-old Frenchman has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring six goals and providing two assists.

Maresca also acknowledged that Cherki can sometimes spend too long in possession and move away from his position. When that happens, the midfielder is less effective and poses less of a threat.

Despite that criticism, Maresca was clear about the quality he believes Cherki possesses, praising the level of a player who has made a significant attacking contribution for Manchester City this season.
