Manchester City’s Enzo Fernandez move hangs in balance over Chelsea replacement

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez could remain at Stamford Bridge despite Manchester City’s interest, with the proposed transfer dependent on the Blues securing a replacement on the final day of the transfer window.

The situation has been reported by Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, who says Chelsea are unwilling to allow Fernandez to join Manchester City unless they can bring in another midfielder first.

Chelsea have identified three possible options as they consider how to cover the Argentina international’s departure. Their shortlist includes Lamine Camara of Monaco, Manu Kone of Roma and another unnamed player from the Premier League.

However, Chelsea’s efforts to find a replacement have already encountered difficulties. Monaco have rejected an approach for Camara, while Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is determined to keep Kone at the club.

Those developments have made it harder for Manchester City to complete a deal for Fernandez, with Chelsea’s ability to find a suitable alternative now central to the negotiations.

Chelsea are also seeking an improved offer from Manchester City. The London club have already turned down an earlier proposal because it did not meet their expectations, meaning the Premier League champions would need to increase their bid if they are to make further progress.

As a result, Fernandez’s future remains unresolved on the final day of the transfer window. Manchester City’s interest is clear, but Chelsea’s conditions mean the move cannot go ahead unless two issues are addressed: an acceptable new offer and the signing of a replacement.

The possibility of Fernandez staying at Chelsea therefore remains significant. Even if Manchester City improve their proposal, the transfer could still fail to materialise if the Blues do not complete their own recruitment plans before the deadline.

Chelsea’s three reported midfield targets offer potential solutions, but the setbacks involving Camara and Kone leave the club with fewer straightforward options. The identity of the third Premier League candidate has not been disclosed.

For now, the negotiations remain dependent on events elsewhere in the market. Monaco have already refused to sell Camara, and Gasperini’s resolve to retain Kone has created another obstacle.
