The head of the independent football regulator, David Kogan, has ruled out political influence over the case involving Manchester City.

Kogan said he would resign if political pressure were brought to bear on him.

An independent commission of the English Premier League previously found Manchester City guilty of multiple breaches of the league’s financial rules between 2009 and 2018.

The club rejected the verdict and lodged an appeal.
