Lookman features as Atletico Madrid edge Deportivo La Coruna

Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman appeared for Atletico Madrid as they claimed a narrow 1-0 La Liga victory over Deportivo La Coruna at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday.

The match was Lookman’s 10th La Liga appearance of the season for Diego Simeone’s side. He made an energetic contribution during the opening half but was withdrawn at the interval, with Robin Le Normand taking his place for the second period.

Atletico struggled to break through a closely fought first half, with neither side able to find the net before the interval.

The hosts finally took the lead three minutes after the restart. In the 48th minute, Atletico built a sweeping attack down the right before moving the ball across to the left.

Alejandro Grimaldo then delivered a precise pass into the path of Julian Alvarez, who applied a polished finish to put Atletico in front.

Deportivo responded positively and pushed for an equaliser as the game entered its closing stages. Their pressure created problems for Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak, but the visitors could not find a way past him.

Atletico’s defence remained organised under pressure and held on to secure a clean sheet and all three points.
