Liverpool explored the possibility of signing a new right-back during the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic, after concerns emerged over Jeremie Frimpong.

The Netherlands international was reportedly the subject of doubts within the club, prompting Liverpool to consider alternatives for the position. One player they examined was Marco Palestra, who eventually joined Chelsea.

Liverpool also attempted to negotiate a loan deal for Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto. However, the London club was only prepared to consider a permanent transfer for the player.

Frimpong, 25, has featured in three matches in all competitions this season but has not registered a goal or an assist.
