Kolo Muani rescues Juventus with late equaliser at Cagliari
Randal Kolo Muani’s late header earned Juventus a 1-1 draw at Cagliari and prevented the Bianconeri from suffering consecutive away league defeats for the first time since October 2025.
The result also denied Cagliari successive victories over Juventus for the first time since 2009, although the Rossoblu remain fourth in the Serie A table. Juventus will finish the weekend sixth, two points behind their opponents, having lost only one of their past nine away matches, with four wins and four draws during that run.
Cagliari had emerged as the league’s biggest surprise package after winning four of their first five matches before the international break. Yet it was Juventus who made the stronger start and they should have gone ahead after 15 minutes.
Nicolas Gonzalez was unmarked six yards from goal but could only divert the ball wide with his knee. The Argentina international was punished five minutes later when Daniel Maldini converted Cagliari’s first clear opportunity.
Paul Mendy’s lay-off released Maldini, who calmly slotted the ball past Guglielmo Vicario. It was his fourth successive Serie A match with a goal and the fifth time in his last seven scoring appearances that he had opened the scoring.
It was also the first occasion this season that Juventus had conceded before the 60-minute mark. Cagliari nearly doubled their advantage when Harry Winks’ long-range effort was pushed over the crossbar by Vicario.
Juventus continued to have most of the possession but struggled to create clear chances. Their first shot on target did not arrive until first-half stoppage time, when Gonzalez’s free-kick was struck directly at Elia Caprile.
Luciano Spalletti responded by making two changes at half-time, introducing Kerim Alajbegovic and Edon Zhegrova for Weston McKennie and Francisco Conceicao. Zhegrova immediately tested Caprile, whose save showed that Juventus carried a greater threat after the interval.
Cagliari remained dangerous on the counter-attack, with Vicario making two important one-on-one saves from Mendy. The forward was eventually flagged offside on both occasions.
With Juventus chasing an equaliser, Spalletti sent on Nick Woltemade and Andrea Cambiaso. Caprile then kept out another effort from Zhegrova, as Cagliari continued to protect their lead.
The hosts were finally beaten nine minutes from time when Alajbegovic delivered a cross and Kolo Muani guided a header beyond Caprile for his first league goal of the season.
Kolo Muani almost completed the turnaround four minutes later, but somehow struck the underside of the crossbar from close range. It proved to be Juventus’ best chance of taking all three points.
Flashscore named Juventus midfielder Kerim Alajbegovic as the Man of the Match.
