John Donald joins Mallorca on season-long loan from Elche

Spain-Nigeria centre-back John Donald has joined RCD Mallorca from Elche CF on a season-long loan, strengthening the LaLiga2 club’s defensive options for the 2026-27 campaign.

The move was completed on 31 August, with Donald’s temporary spell at Mallorca running until 30 June 2027. The 25-year-old defender will return to Elche at the end of the loan.

Born in Murcia, Donald is eligible to represent both Spain and Nigeria and stands 1.82m tall. He is a right-footed central defender who has spent his career in Spanish football, progressing through the youth system at Villarreal before moving into senior football.

Donald joined Villarreal’s youth ranks from Roda’s under-19 side in 2017 and stepped up to Villarreal C two years later. In July 2020, he left Villarreal for Elche Ilicitano on a free transfer before moving to Elche CF in 2022.

His career record includes 39 appearances and three goals in LaLiga2, as well as 39 LaLiga appearances and one goal. He has also played 13 times in the Copa del Rey and made one appearance in the promotion play-offs for the Segunda Federacion.

Donald’s arrival gives Mallorca a defender with experience across Spain’s professional divisions as the club prepares for its latest season in LaLiga2. His previous spell at Elche included exposure to LaLiga, while his move to Mallorca represents a return to the second tier.

Mallorca will be Donald’s latest club after four seasons with Elche CF, where he followed his development with the reserve side. The defender’s deal with his new club is listed through June 2027, matching the scheduled conclusion of the loan.

John Donald has therefore completed his move from Elche to RCD Mallorca on loan until 30 June 2027.
