Getafe and Celta Vigo share the points after 1-1 draw in La Liga

Getafe and Celta Vigo drew 1-1 in the fourth round of La Liga after neither side could find a winner in a match that changed significantly following the hosts’ second-half dismissal.

Martin Satriano gave Getafe the lead midway through the first half, rewarding the home side for taking advantage of its early opportunity. Getafe then protected that advantage until half-time, with Celta Vigo unable to find an equaliser before the interval.

The visitors returned from the break with greater attacking intent and were able to restore parity in the 57th minute. Hugo Gonzalez supplied the assist for Carl Starfelt, who finished the move to bring Celta Vigo level.

That goal shifted the balance of the contest, but Getafe’s task became more difficult 10 minutes later when Said Romero was shown a red card. The dismissal left Getafe with 10 players for the remainder of the match and gave Celta Vigo a numerical advantage.

Celta Vigo were unable to make that extra player count, however. Despite having more space and possession after Romero’s sending-off, the team from Vigo could not score a second goal. Getafe remained organised as the match moved towards its conclusion, while Celta Vigo failed to produce the decisive finish.

The final whistle confirmed a 1-1 draw, with both sides taking a point from the fourth-round fixture. Satriano’s first-half goal had put Getafe in front, but Starfelt’s equaliser ensured the hosts’ lead did not survive the second half.

Neither team managed to alter the score after the red card, meaning the result remained level despite the late advantage enjoyed by Celta Vigo.
