Fenerbahce consider January move for Bursaspor striker Kelechi Iheanacho
Fenerbahce are interested in signing Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho from Bursaspor during the January transfer window, according to a report by BSNSports.com.ng.
The 30-year-old has made an immediate impact since joining the Turkish second-division club as a free agent, scoring in 12 consecutive matches.
Iheanacho has scored 16 goals and provided three assists in 12 league appearances for the Green Crocodiles.
Turkish football pundit Ahmet Selim Kul said Bursaspor president Enes Celik had discussed the possibility of the striker moving to Fenerbahce.
“There are reports that Fenerbahce is interested; we've received intelligence to that effect, and it's pointing to this team being Fenerbahce,” Kul said.
“Of course, Iheanacho makes a big difference. He's already a top-level name with his track record. There were Samsunspor rumours last year too.
“Fenerbahce's foreign player quota is full right now, so they need to offload a player, but it looks like he'll be on the agenda in the mid-season window.”
The Istanbul club would therefore need to make space in their foreign-player quota before any move for Iheanacho could progress.
Iheanacho has also set a new record during his prolific run in Turkey by scoring in 10 consecutive league matches.
That achievement surpassed the previous record jointly held by Galatasaray legends Metin Oktay and Saffet Sancakl?.
