Everton consider January move for Bayer Leverkusen forward Christian Kofane
Everton are considering renewing their interest in Christian Kofane during the January transfer window after being impressed by the Bayer Leverkusen forward’s early-season performances.
The 20-year-old Cameroon international was already on the English club’s shortlist during the summer, but Leverkusen rejected the possibility of a departure in the final hours of the transfer window.
According to sources close to the situation cited by Football Insider, Everton have now identified Kofane as a potential target for January. Manager David Moyes is looking for solutions to strengthen an attack that has struggled in front of goal, and the Cameroon forward’s progress has reportedly caught his attention.
Everton could therefore return with an approach in the winter, although any move would depend on Bayer Leverkusen agreeing to negotiate over the player’s departure.
Leverkusen planning for Kofane’s future
Leverkusen are expected to make any potential deal difficult, with the German club keen to retain Kofane and confident he can continue to develop into a leading forward.
As reported exclusively by Africafoot, Leverkusen want to secure the striker’s long-term future. The club are considering extending his contract until 2031, a proposal that would underline their faith in his ability and their intention to continue his development within the squad.
That stance could leave Everton needing to convince Leverkusen to change their position if they are to bring Kofane to the Premier League.
For now, there is no guarantee that the German club will allow the forward to leave in January. However, his encouraging start to the season has increased interest in his services, making him a player to watch when the next transfer window opens.
Kofane is valued at 40 million euros by Transfermarkt. His annual salary is 660 000 euros (429 000 000 FCFA).
Bayer Leverkusen will soon play their second match in the Europa League against Lech Poznan.
