Durosinmi Backs Genk to Challenge for Belgian Pro League Title
Rafiu Durosinmi has expressed confidence that Genk can recover from their unconvincing start and mount a serious challenge for the Belgian Pro League title this season, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Genk currently occupy ninth position with nine points from six matches after recording two victories, three draws and one defeat.
Although the results have left the club outside the leading positions at this early stage of the campaign, Durosinmi believes there is enough quality within the squad to turn their fortunes around.
“This is absolutely not where we want to be,” Durosinmi told Walfoot. “I am convinced that we will soon return to the top of the rankings. As a team, we just have to do better.
“We don’t want to be in this position, and we don’t want to continue drawing games. We always want to play for the three points because our goal is to fight for the title.”
The forward also pointed to the commitment shown by his teammates during both training sessions and matches, insisting that Genk have the mentality required to compete with the teams currently challenging near the top of the table.
“I see the group we have. Everyone is ready to give their all in every training session and every match. Why couldn’t we compete with the teams fighting for the title? We are also capable of it,” he added.
With the season still in its early stages, Durosinmi is hopeful Genk can turn their numerous draws into victories and begin climbing the Belgian top-flight standings.
The Nigerian forward believes improved consistency will be crucial if the Smurfs are to transform their title ambition into a realistic challenge as the campaign progresses.
