Como are planning to extend the contract of 20-year-old winger Assane Diao after turning down a €40m offer from a Premier League club during the summer transfer window.

The proposed agreement would keep the Senegal international at Como until 2031, according to transfer expert Nicolo Schira, who reported the development on social media.

Como also rejected approaches from clubs in Serie A during the summer, choosing to retain Diao despite significant interest in the winger. The Italian club’s decision came after the Premier League bid reached €40m, but no move was completed before the transfer window closed.

Diao has made a strong start to the new season. He has played in three Serie A matches, scoring twice and providing one assist. His performances have increased attention around the player while Como consider offering him improved long-term security.

The winger’s current contract runs until the end of June 2029. A new deal lasting through 2031 would therefore extend his commitment to the club by two additional years beyond the existing agreement.

There has been no indication that the proposed extension has been formally completed. The information currently concerns Como’s plans to negotiate a new contract with Diao, who remains tied to the club under his existing terms.

The decision to reject offers from both the Premier League and Serie A means Como have kept one of their most closely watched young players at the club. Diao’s contribution in the opening three league matches has also given Como further reason to pursue a longer agreement.

With two goals and an assist already recorded in the new campaign, Diao has been directly involved in three goals despite appearing in only three league games. His current form, combined with the interest shown during the summer, is understood to have shaped Como’s intention to secure his future.

For now, the 2029 expiry date remains in place. However, if the planned negotiations are successful, Diao could sign a contract taking him through to 2031, reinforcing Como’s position after the club chose not to accept the offers received for him.
