CAF fines Egypt $5,000 over media obligations breach at AFCON 2025
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Egypt $5,000 following their opening match against Zimbabwe at the ongoing AFCON 2025 tournament, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The sanction was imposed after members of Egypt’s playing squad and technical crew failed to observe mandatory media duties in the mixed zone after the game.
CAF confirmed that the entire Egyptian delegation walked past journalists without granting post-match interviews, a move that contravenes the tournament’s media regulations.
CAF has also issued a stern warning to the Pharaohs, stressing that more severe sanctions will be enforced should the team again fail to meet media requirements after they clash with South Africa later today.
Media engagement remains a compulsory aspect of CAF competitions, with teams expected to cooperate fully with accredited journalists throughout the tournament.
