Bruno Genesio matches Marseille’s unwanted record after Rennes defeat

Marseille’s Ligue 1 campaign began its fourth round with another defeat as Bruno Genesio’s side were beaten narrowly away by Rennes.

The result was Marseille’s third loss in their opening four league matches under Genesio, who has become only the fourth manager in the club’s history to make such a poor start.

The previous coach to suffer three defeats in his first four league games in charge was Croatia’s Ivan Markovic, who recorded the same sequence in 1977.

The two earlier instances came under Jules Devacke in 1946 and Andre Gascard in 1938.
