Bayer Leverkusen claimed a 2-0 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig on Sunday, with Nigeria internationals Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella both missing from the matchday action.

Tella remains sidelined by injury and has not played for the club this season. Boniface, meanwhile, has made one appearance during the current campaign and has registered one assist.

RB Leipzig began strongly and put early pressure on the Leverkusen defence. Their attacking play required several good interventions from goalkeeper Mark Flekken, who was tested during the opening stages.

The visitors appeared to have taken the lead in the 34th minute when Christopher Nkunku found the net. However, the goal was ruled out after a review by the video assistant referee.

Leverkusen responded just before half-time. In the 44th minute, Miguel Gutierrez created the opening for Patrik Schick, who finished past the goalkeeper to give the home side a 1-0 advantage.

The goal continued Schick’s impressive start to the league season. The striker has now scored in each of Bayer Leverkusen’s first four Bundesliga matches.

Leverkusen extended their lead 12 minutes after the interval. Gutierrez completed an outstanding individual display by scoring in the 57th minute, putting his side 2-0 ahead.

RB Leipzig enjoyed periods of greater possession in the second half and applied pressure late in the match. Leverkusen’s defence, however, resisted those attempts and preserved the clean sheet.

The result gave Bayer Leverkusen their second Bundesliga win of the season and moved them up to 10th place in the table.
