Anthony Elanga says Ola Aina is ideal right-back option for Nottingham Forest
Anthony Elanga has praised Ola Aina’s performance for Nottingham Forest and said the Nigeria international is “perfect” in the right-back role.
Aina attracted attention last weekend after being named in the Nottingham Forest XI as a right-sided central defender, despite having limited experience in a back three.
The 28-year-old was required to move into the centre of defence because Nikola Milenkovic was unavailable, while Jair Cunha was also dealing with a hamstring problem.
Although Aina was playing in an unfamiliar position, he impressed Forest supporters with his display. His performance also gave manager Glasner another option to consider before this weekend’s game against Coventry.
Daniel Munoz was named in the Team of the Week, but Aina’s showing was timely as he continues to establish himself as a versatile member of the Forest squad.
Since joining Nottingham Forest on a free transfer, Aina has played on both sides of the defence. He has also become a popular figure in the dressing room and is recognised for his commitment to the club.
Speaking on his Instagram channel on Wednesday night, Aina was asked about his experience of playing at centre-back. He acknowledged that the role required him to approach the game differently.
“It was a bit of a difference, I can’t lie. It was different,” Aina said.
“There was a lot more...I feel like I had to read the game a bit more. That was a bit difficult for me, I can’t lie.”
Despite admitting that he found some aspects of the position challenging, Aina performed effectively in the role.
His display earned approval from Forest fans, and former Nottingham Forest player Elanga appeared to agree with their assessment.
The Newcastle player commented: “I think you played that role perfectly.”
