Algeria manager Brahim Hemdani is reportedly considering recalls for Ismael Bennacer and Baghdad Bounedjah for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers against Togo.

The two players could return to the squad after 10 months away, provided they are judged to be physically ready. Algeria host Togo in Tizi-Ouzou on 14 November before travelling to Lome for the second match on 17 November.

The possible selections were reported by specialist account F.M.Y. and would represent a significant change for two players who have been absent from the national team since the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bennacer and Bounedjah have made a combined 142 appearances for Algeria and scored 38 goals. Both were left out of former manager Vladimir Petkovic’s plans and were not selected for the 2026 World Cup.

Bennacer’s run of injuries has contributed to his absence. The midfielder was disappointed to miss the global tournament and his return was delayed further after an outburst during his first appearance for Al-Gharafa in mid-September.

Bounedjah, meanwhile, was considered a source of anxiety because of his behaviour at the Africa Cup of Nations. His absence was felt particularly sharply in Algeria’s attack during the World Cup.

Further midfield changes under consideration

Hemdani is also expected to consider several other midfielders who were absent from his first squad, including players who featured at the World Cup.

Yacine Titraoui, Nabil Bentaleb and Nadhir Benbouali have all recovered from their injuries and are reportedly in contention. Bentaleb’s leadership is said to be particularly attractive to the new manager.

Hicham Boudaoui may also return after being omitted from the previous squad as a result of the coach’s decision.

The situation surrounding Houssem Aouar remains unresolved. Hemdani is understood to be looking for a creative midfielder to support Ibrahim Maza, leaving the door open for Aouar to be included.

Young defender Kelyann Bezahaf is expected to be named in the expanded squad. The 20-year-old Marseille player reportedly impressed with a composed display against Troyes in the French league at the weekend, when his side won 0-2 on Sunday.

Bezahaf was called up by the Algeria under-23 team during the most recent international break.

However, Adil Aouchiche, Ilan Kebbal and Monsef Bakrar are all under serious threat of losing their places as Hemdani reshapes his squad for the two meetings with Togo.
