Ajax have reportedly opened discussions with Wolverhampton Wanderers over a permanent move for Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare following his impressive performances since arriving in the Netherlands, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

According to Foot Africa, the Dutch club is already working towards securing the 25-year-old's services beyond his current loan spell, with a potential transfer targeted for 2027.

Arokodare moved to Ajax in the summer after finding opportunities limited during his first season at Wolves, who reportedly paid £24 million to sign him less than a year earlier. His time at Molineux was also reportedly affected by a disagreement with newly appointed head coach Cesar Peixoto.

Wolves eventually sanctioned a loan move to Ajax, with the agreement understood to include an option for the Dutch side to make the transfer permanent if the forward delivered the expected performances. The transfer fee attached to that clause has not been made public, leaving it unclear whether Ajax intend to negotiate different terms.

The Nigerian international's performances have strengthened his position, with nine goals and three assists in 14 appearances for Ajax this season. He has also found the net in five of his last seven Eredivisie outings as the Amsterdam club pursue a strong league campaign, despite completing 90 minutes only three times across all competitions.

His latest contribution came in Ajax's 2-1 away victory over Sparta Rotterdam, a result that lifted them to second place in the league standings.

Abdellah Ouazane gave Ajax the lead in the 22nd minute before Jens Toornstra equalised in the 43rd minute during his 500th Eredivisie appearance. Arokodare then restored Ajax's advantage two minutes later, finishing into the far corner after Julian Brandt helped launch a counter-attack.

The reported interest from Ajax could present Wolves with a decision over the striker's future as they look to strengthen their promotion push in the Championship. The English club have been short of attacking options, with Raul Jimenez sidelined until at least January, Adam Armstrong managing two league goals, and Newcastle United loanee Sean Neave starting only twice in the league.

With Arokodare delivering consistently in the Netherlands, Ajax may be keen to settle his future early rather than risk losing the opportunity to secure a permanent deal.
