Super Eagles skipper, Ahmed Musa has quashedsuggestions about his retirement from the national team, stating instead that he remains part of the team and is committed to its development, AOIFootball.com reports.

Musa who said earlier in 2022, that the delayed 2021 AFCON in Cameroon would be his last tournament, told AOIFootball.com exclusively in the Eagles camp on Monday that he’s yet to make any official announcement about his international career.

“Yes, I said it was my last tournament, but I did not say I am out of the Super Eagles; what people say is their opinion but for me, I am still a player of the Super Eagles.

“I have not called it quits and the coaches know that I have something to give and that’s why I am here with the team.

“The next AFCON is in 2023, so if I am still playing active football and the coach says he still wants me around, I am very much available to give my best. The invitation is not in my hands, only they can invite and if they do, I would always honour the invitation,” Musa said.

The former Kano Pillars player however laughed off suggestions that he could still play till the 2026 World Cup, saying that’s too far for him to begin to worry about.

The 29-year-old is Nigeria’s most capped player with 106 appearances, and he also holds the record for the most goals scored by any Nigerian player at aFIFA World Cup. He scored four goals in his two World Cup appearances in 2014 and 2018.
