Icland players allowed to have sex before Super Eagles game
Icland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson has rubbished reports he has imposed a sex ban on his players during the World Cup.
Ahead of the European minnows’ Group D clash with Nigeria later today, the 51-year-old has claimed he will not stop his players from becoming physical with their partners.
With the Iceland squad’s wives and girlfriends due to arrive in Russia imminently, Hallgrimsson stressed his players are free to have sexual relations.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of their match against the Super Eagles, skipper Aron Gunnarsson joked about the reported sex ban.
The Cardiff midfielder said: “For the time being, yes.”
While Hallgrimsson interjected: “As long as the wives haven’t arrived! No it’s not banned, it’s bull****.”
To which a flummoxed Gunnarsson added: “Are you going to use this is the news? Ah, that’s fine.”
Iceland go into the clash in high spirits after holding Argentina to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, and were unfortunate not to nick all three points.
A win against Nigeria would leave them second in the table, and put them in good stead of qualifying for the Round of 16.
But they will be without Burnley winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who picked up a knock against the South American nation.
Speaking of his injury, Hallgrimsson said: “He is getting better every day. He is good hands. I am not going to hide that it is very unlikely that he will play.
“We are not afraid. It will not change the plans that we have decided before this game.”
